NHCA Goes Green
On the 4th Sunday of every month, Mary McCutcheon leads volunteers in clearing invasives at Fort Bennett Park. As an incentive, volunteers earn credits that can reduce their storm water fees by 5%. Join Mary on Sunday, March 23rd at the Bay-Eva Castle clearing, 100 meters from the Dawson Terrace Community Center parking lot.
Take Five Minutes to Tell Us What You Think
Change is happening all around us—the only way our neighborhood can shape and influence what happens in a positive direction is to be involved every step of the way. Your first step is to take a five minute, five question survey. Your survey response will
create an inventory of our neighborhood’s assets, needs and priorities for improvements. It will inform our Neighborhood Plan. Our Neighborhood Plan will provide long-term guidance to residents, developers, community leaders, and Arlington County government. It is important to hear all voices from the community. We have set an ambitious goal of having 1,000 of you our NHCA neighbors respond to the survey by May 25, 2025. Please use the QR code tell us what is important to
you about our neighborhood. The survey results will be presented at our May 26th NHCA Meeting. Naudy Martinez, Arlington County Neighborhood Community Planner will join us for our community dialogue. In addition, to volunteers preserving and enhancing the green spaces of NHCA, neighbors are also contributing to the making
NHCA safe, friendly and with smart development.
Friendly
We would like to thank Nakish Jordan of the Parks & Recreation Department for allowing NHCA to use a meeting room and conference room at the Dawson Terrace Community Center. The conference room will be used by the social events committee to plan for NHCA’s Fall Fest to be held at Dawson Terrace Community Center and Playing Fields. Please contact us via email if you’d like to join this committee
Smart Development
NHCA participates in the Langston Boulevard Alliance, the ArNAC Committee and CivFed Planning and Zoning Committees to address the need for smart development in our neighborhood.
Essential to smart development is the design of streets, sidewalks, curbs, lighting and signage for pedestrian and cyclist safety. Above is Arlington County’s map of the sidewalks in NHCA. If your block is lacking sidewalks, curbs, lighting or signage please take a photo and send it via email to us with your comments. Your information will be included in in our Neighborhood Plan assessment inventory.
Safe
Ben Keeney, Aaron Roberts and David Briggs are representing NHCA by providing input to the redevelopment of the Walgreen’s site at 3130 Langston Boulevard. One emphasis is addressing pedestrian safety issues at this very dangerous crossing.
